Trelleborg Medical Solutions has opened 43,055 square feet of new manufacturing space in Hal-Far, Malta.

The site includes two new clean rooms and will manufacture braided hose and silicone extrusions for biopharmaceutical applications. It’s Trelleborg’s second biopharma-processing-focused manufacturing space alongside its BioPharma Center of Excellence in Northborough, Mass.

Trelleborg has a long presence in Malta going back to 1961 and continues to be a pillar in Maltese manufacturing, developing skills, and creating new jobs. The company’s workforce is expected to increase by about 100 employees to meet new business demands.

“We’ll partner with major medical device and biopharmaceutical processing customers to bring products to market faster, with greater reliability and the confidence of in-region manufacturing to reduce supply chain risk,” said Daniel Diffenderfer, Business Unit President for Trelleborg Medical Solutions Europe. “This facility will be a hub for innovation, reducing lead times and strengthening supply chains across Europe and beyond.”

“Malta’s strategic location, skilled workforce and culture of excellence made it the perfect place to realize our vision of bringing in-region production for major life science and medical device companies to Malta as a global partner of choice,” Diffenderfer continued.

Trelleborg supplies original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and biopharma processing companies with products and capabilities for single- and multi-use biopharma applications. The company’s portfolio ranges from its silicone BioPharmaPro solutions and hose to custom silicone and rubber-molded parts, O-Rings, seals, bearings and composite products, all customizable into ready-to-use solutions.

“This is a significant step forward in fulfilling our mission of Protecting the Essential, meaning behind each product we make is a person who relies on us,” said Linda Muroski, Business Area President for Trelleborg Medical Solutions. “In Malta, we’ll manufacture critical components for life-saving therapies. From single-use bioprocessing solutions to medical devices used by millions, each product must meet exacting standards for quality, regulatory compliance and process control. This grand opening is just the beginning of the next chapter in our quest to be the partner of choice for medical and life science technology companies globally.”
